Meg Kinnard Hardee to speak during Dec. 16 commencement

MARTIN, Tenn. – Meg Kinnard Hardee, a political and legal affairs reporter with The Associated Press, who bylines as Meg Kinnard, will address graduates Dec. 16 during the University of Tennessee at Martin’s fall commencement ceremony. Commencement will begin at 11 a.m. in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.

Hardee lives in South Carolina, but grew up in Memphis, and spent much of her childhood at her grandparents’ Yorkville farm. She is a dedicated UT Martin supporter and the only grandchild of the late 8th-District Congressman Ed Jones. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service in International Politics/International Security Studies from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and has completed internships with The Washington Post and the United States House of Representatives Committee for Government Reform.

She is now in her 12th year with AP and was named AP Staffer of the Year in 2008. Hardee covered every major candidate during the 2016 presidential race and traveled with the Bernie Sanders and Marco Rubio campaigns.

She and her husband, Geoffrey, are co-authors of the upcoming biography “Grassroots Politickin’: The Life and Legacy of Ed Jones” and recently established an endowed scholarship for UT Martin students seeking to become journalists. The Hardees have also supported UT Martin’s Ed and Llew Jones Legacy Fund and joined with former Congressman John Tanner and his wife, Betty Ann, to preserve the legacy of the 8th Congressional District with a gift to the Paul Meek Library Special Collections.

UT Martin’s fall commencement ceremony includes students who completed degrees during both the summer and fall semesters. It is not a ticketed event. A live webcast will be made available for the convenience of those unable to attend in person.
