MARTIN, Tenn. – Katlyn Austin, of Vanleer; Dorothy Boyle, of Middleton; and Bri Goode, of Newport News, Virginia, received Paul and Martha Meek Leadership Awards during the University of Tennessee at Martin’s fall commencement exercises Dec. 16.

Dr. Paul Meek served the UT Martin campus as executive officer, dean, UT vice president or chancellor from 1934 to 1967. These awards were originally established and funded by the three Meek children to honor their parents and are given each semester to graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities during their time at UT Martin.

Austin received a bachelor’s degree in business administration during commencement activities. During her time as an undergraduate student at UT Martin, she served as student marketing assistant in the Office of Student Life, spent three years as a Peer Enabling Program mentor and was active in a variety of organizations, including the College of Business and Global Affairs Student Advisory Board and the UT Martin chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Boyle also earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. During her time as an undergraduate student at UT Martin, she served as a Peer Enabling Program mentor and college team leader with UT Martin First-Year Initiative and worked with the UT Martin Office of Campus Recreation.

Goode received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice during commencement activities. During her time as an undergraduate student at UT Martin, she worked with the Office of Housing, the UT Martin Criminal Justice Society and the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She was also active in the National Society of Leadership and Success and served as a Peer Enabling Program mentor, UT Martin student ambassador and a freshman orientation leader.

The Paul and Martha Meek Leadership Awards are the only individual awards given during commencement exercises each semester. For more information on the award or its recipients, contact John Abel, UT Martin’s assistant vice chancellor of student affairs, at 731-881-7710 or email jabel@utm.edu.
