Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Breakfast to be held Jan. 15

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin, the city of Martin and the UT Martin Black Student Association will host the sixth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Breakfast beginning at 8:45 a.m., Jan. 15, in the Boling University Center’s Duncan Ballroom. Sharis Diggs-Chandler, of Martin, will serve as keynote speaker.
Chandler currently works in sales and marketing with Southern Printing N Graphics in Dresden and has previously held the positions of branch manager at the Hamilton-Ryker Company’s Martin location, area manager of the Union City location, and business manager at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Union City.
The breakfast is held each year to honor the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrate local leaders who have given back to the community. UT Martin students Tyra Hawkins, a senior, and Devin Majors, a sophomore, both of Madison, will also address attendees. Hawkins is president and Majors is first vice president of the UT Martin Black Student Association.
Tickets are available for $5 each and can be purchased at Martin City Hall until Jan. 12. No tickets will be sold at the door. The program itself will begin at 9 a.m.
