3.2  Adjunct Faculty Qualifications

 

Adjunct faculty teaching credit courses leading toward the baccalaureate degree, other than physical education activity courses, must hold either the master’s degree of the discipline, a master’s degree in another discipline with at least 18 semester hours in the teaching discipline, or in exceptional cases, outstanding professional experience and demonstrated contributions to the teaching discipline as documented using the format in Appendix A. (SACS, 1998, Criteria for Accreditation).  Individuals who have been employed to teach graduate level courses must hold the terminal degree of the discipline or possess equivalent training and experience appropriate to the discipline.  (Faculty Handbook 2.5.3)  Official documentation of qualifications should be maintained in the adjunct faculty member’s personnel file in the Academic Affairs Office.
