4.8          Canceling Class

The university policy for canceling classes can be found in the Faculty Handbook 4.1.4 and 4.1.5.  In essence, faculty are expected to adhere to the schedule outlined in the Schedule of Courses and the Academic Calendar published by the university.  If canceling a class cannot be avoided, the instructor must use a substitute (proctor), an alternative assignment, or an extra class session to compensate.  If an instructor must be absent from class, he/she must contact his/her immediate supervisor with as much notice as possible.  The instructor must also arrange a posting of the cancellation.

All extended campus faculty are asked to notify the appropriate ECCE office as soon as possible if they are unable to meet a scheduled class due to illness or other conflicts. ECCE staff will contact students and take the appropriate actions to cancel facilities and resources scheduled for the classes.

During periods of inclement weather (tornados, snow, sleet, flooding, etc.), the Office of University Relations will contact the media, and ECCE will contact faculty and students to update individuals on the status of classes.
