3.5         Conditions Of Faculty Appointment And Retention

 

3.5.1    Letter of Appointment

 

If the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and the Chancellor approve the recommendations of the department chair and appropriate dean, a formal letter of appointment will be written to the candidate by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The letter of appointment specifies: (a) rank, (b) salary and related financial conditions,

 

3.5.2   Acceptance of Appointment

 

Written acceptance of the letter of appointment, together with execution of normal University employment forms, completes the initial agreement of employment between the University and the faculty member.

3.5.3   Salary

 

Adjunct and overload pay is established according to Academic Affairs policy.  The policy is included on the Academic Affairs website at:

The policy applies to all UT Martin adjunct faculty and regular faculty and staff teaching overloads at all campus sites effective Fall Semester, 2001.  Compensation is based upon the university’s current adjunct pay scale per semester credit hour.

 

3.5.4   Supplemental Pay

 

Adjunct faculty traveling to an off-campus teaching site shall receive supplemental pay based on a maximum of 16 trips per course calculated from their residential or work address, whichever mileage is less.  In addition, regularfaculty and staff shall receive Supplemental Pay for a maximum of 16 trips per course. In addition to supplemental pay, regular faculty and staff who teach off-campus classes shall also be reimbursed for travel expenses in accordance with the University travel policies. According to UT Fiscal Policy, travel distances for regular faculty and staff are determined by residential address or work address, whichever mileage is less.

Regular faculty and staff who teach Distance Learning classes that include off-campus delivery of the class shall be reimbursed for a maximum of 25 percent of scheduled class meetings at remote locations. Travel requests beyond the 25 percent of class meetings must be approved in advance and funded by the departments and the colleges. Adjunct faculty who teach Distance Learning classes, which include off-campus delivery of the class, shall be paid according to the supplemental pay chart.

 

The appropriate department chair, dean, and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs must approve any exceptions to the above guidelines. The Director of Extended Campus and Continuing Education must also approve any exceptions for off-campus courses.
