4 Course Management
4.1 Syllabi
In general, classroom policies are left to the discretion of the instructor of record. Students in all courses must receive a course syllabus at the beginning of the term. The syllabus should be designed according to the standard UT Martin syllabus format (see Appendix C) and must include specific statements regarding required readings, grading procedures, examinations, projects, and assignments. According to Section 4.1.4 of the Faculty Handbook, faculty should state the attendance policy for each class “explicitly and unambiguously in class.” Explicit statements regarding the attendance policy, makeup examinations, and academic dishonesty must be included in the course syllabus. The specific statement regarding students with disabilities found in Appendix C is also required in the syllabus. Any other statement of classroom policies should be included directly in the course syllabus as documentation of both student and instructor accountability and responsibility.
