studio experiences appropriate for both elementary and secondary students.

400 Senior Seminar in Art
Education (3 - Spring) Current issues in the profession of art education, review of
national standards, and the relationship of aesthetic education to the overall
development of young people. Historical, philosophical, psychological, and
social aspects of art in the curriculum. Measurement and evaluation of art
instruction. Prereq: ARTE 360.
410 (610) Designing Visual Aids for
the Classroom (3 - Not Offered) Design and construction of low cost visual aids for use in
grades K-12.
Prereq: ARTE 260, admission to Teacher Education.
461 Internship in Teaching Art (12 - Not Offered) Supervised experience (one
semester) in the teaching of visual art in off-campus centers. Must be taken
concurrently with Art Education 462. Prereq: Admission to Teacher Education,
TCED 301, 302, and all required art content courses. (Application for internship
must be filed no later than two semesters prior to enrolling).

Seminar in Teaching Art (3 - Not Offered) Philosophical and social aspects of art as a
part of basic education and intellectual development. Organization, structure,
and evaluation of sequential art curricula. Professional organizations and
continual professional growth. Implications of the Tennessee Instructional Model
and the Tennessee Career Development Program for art education. Evaluations
about art and specific techniques for teaching. Must be taken concurrently with
ARTE 461.
471 Student Teaching in Art - Grades K-6 (6 - Fall & Spring) Supervised
student teaching of art in grades K-6 in off-campus centers for a minimum of 7.5
weeks. Must be taken concurrently with ARTE 473. (Normally taken concurrently
also with ARTE 472.) Prereq: Admission to Teaching Education, TCED 301-302 and
all other required courses in the Professional Education core.

Student Teaching in Art - Grades 7-12 (6 - Fall & Spring) Supervised student teaching of art
in grades 7-12 in off-campus centers for a minimum of 7.5 weeks. Must be taken
concurrently with ARTE 473. (Normally taken concurrently also with ARTE 471.)
Prereq: Admission to Teacher Education, TCED 301-302 and all other required
courses in the Professional Education core.
473 Seminar in Teaching
Art (1 - Fall & Spring) Structured seminar for advanced discussion of instructional and
classroom management, variety in methodology, discipline, school law,
professionalism, and related topics. Emphasis will be placed on oral expression
and written communication. Coreq: ARTE 471-472 (student teaching courses.)
