Degree Requirements for Department of
Agriculture & Natural Resources


The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers a Master of Science in Agricultural Operations Management. The M.S.A.O.M. is a technical management degree designed to give in-depth academic and industrial experience in agricultural systems science and operations management. Agricultural systems consist of groups of components, operational functions, and processes that are integrated to accomplish the goals of the agricultural industry and agriculture and natural resource agencies. The technical manager of agriculture and natural resources operations today must oversee and integrate science, technology and management in the following activities:

  • Personnel management
  • Scheduling
  • Organizational planning
  • Environmental planning and compliance
  • Safety
  • Product sales and support
  • Data information and analysis
  • Functional biological, chemical, and physical management
  • Finance
  • Internal and international communication

The M.S.A.O.M. degree is designed to enhance these areas of needed competence. A special emphasis is placed on integrating technologies and science into the management of the agribusiness world and agriculture and natural resource agencies.

  6. Agricultural and Science Electives Group (3 hours)
    • Any approved 600 level or higher course in Agriculture, Natural Resources, the sciences, or other course approved by the supervisory committee.

MINIMUM HOURS REQUIRED FOR DEGREE: 36

A minimum of 70 percent of the degree requirements must be taken at the 700 level. The student will write a narrative, comprehensive exam covering major areas studied. Questions will be submitted by all members of studentŐs graduate committee. A final oral examination may be required by graduate committee.
