Members present: Ted Comstock, Charles Rayburn, Roger Fisher (chair),
Stephanie Kolitch, Dorotha Norton, Steve Rogers, Jim Fieser, Glenn
Everett, Bob Self, Paul Hertzel, David McBeth, Kendall Blanchard
Others present: Linda Ramsey, Jerald Ogg, Phil Miller
- Roger Fisher opened the meeting by introducing Phil Miller who
reported on the results of last year's survey conducted by the
Administrative Performance Task Force. The committee discussed the
results of the survey and the several issues that have been
central to the ongoing campus discussion about the evaluation of
administrators.
- The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
- Fisher asked if there were any old business to be attended to.
There was none.
- Fisher asked if there were any new business to be attended
to.
- Glenn Everett made a motion that was seconded by
Bob Self. The motion as amended after discussion was:
"Be it moved that (after the evaluation of each chair,
dean/director, or vice chancellor), the Office of Academic
Affairs place on reserve in the library the computer print-outs
with the numerical data and their analysis." The motion
carried, but with the proviso that the Office of Academic
Affairs would be responsible for making sure these results were
on reserve and that these would be only the computer print-outs
with the numerical data and their analysis.
- Glenn Everett made a motion regarding the way in which the
evaluations of administrators were conducted. Specifically, he
suggested that each year an evaluation packet be sent to all
faculty which included a chair evaluation form, a dean
evaluation form, and a vice chancellor evaluation form. In
addition, he proposed that this packet include a form that
would give faculty the opportunity to evaluate the various
offices that provided services which in some way support and
affect the quality of instruction on campus (e.g., library,
computer center, admissions). After some discussion, it was
decided that no action should be taken on this matter until an
administrative services survey form were designed and brought
before the committee for discussion and approval.
- Fisher distributed to members of the committee copies of a
memorandum from the VCAA posing the question as to how one
measures the way in which a faculty member relates to his or
her colleagues. While this is part of promotion, tenure, and
termination criteria, the Handbook does not make it clear the
nature of the expectations regarding relationships among
colleagues. Fisher asked that committee members give some
thought to this issue.
- The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
