Accreditation and Assessment

Academics

The primary purpose of The University of Tennessee at Martin is to provide a quality undergraduate education in a traditional collegiate atmosphere characterized at all levels by close collaboration among students, faculty and staff. In addition, the university is dedicated to meeting lifelong educational needs by providing graduate programs, distance-learning opportunities and other creative endeavors. Furthermore, the university is committed to advancing the regional and global community through scholarly activities, research and public service.

UT Martin's mission centers on providing quality programs to undergraduates, graduates, and lifelong learners. In addition, the UT Martin community engages in a diverse program of research, scholarly and creative activities, and community and public service.

In pursuit of its mission, UT Martin values excellence in the teaching and learning process and integrity, objectivity, and accountability in all of our day-to-day practices. To that end, we have established a robust culture of assessment that begins with the university mission and strategic plan and includes unit goals, academic program student learning outcomes, a variety of internal and external assessment instruments, data collection and analysis, and data-driven improvement processes designed to enhance the effectiveness of our programs and the efficiency of our institution.
