FOUR CANDIDATES TO INTERVIEW FOR UT MARTIN CHANCELLOR

MARTIN, Tenn. – Interviews are slated for April 9-17 with four candidates for the chancellor’s post at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Plans are to name a successor to Chancellor Nick Dunagan in early May. The new chancellor will begin July 1.

In September, Dr. Dunagan announced his plans to retire in June 2007 with 34 years of service at UT Martin.

The two-day interview process will include meetings with faculty, staff, students and community leaders. A 14-member advisory committee, appointed by University of Tennessee President Dr. John Petersen, will make recommendations to Petersen. The firm of Baker Parker Global Executive Search, of Atlanta, Ga., assisted in the search.

“This has been our first experience with a search firm, and we have jointly employed what I believe is the most extensive screening process we have ever had on this campus,” said Dr. Jerald Ogg, UT Martin interim vice chancellor for student affairs, and chair of the search advisory committee. “These are four superb candidates, and each is excited about the prospect of joining the UT Martin team.”

The interview schedule is as follows:

• April 9-10, Dr. Thomas Rakes, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, University of Tennessee at Martin;
• April 10-11, Dr. John Schwenn, vice president for academic affairs, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kan.;
• April 11-12, Dr. Kaylene Gebert, executive vice president and provost, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro;
• April 16-17, Dr. Roosevelt Newson, vice president for academic affairs and provost, University of North Alabama, Florence.

Ogg commended search advisory committee members. Faculty members are Dr. Ann Duncan, Dr. Nell Gullett and Dr. John Schommer; students, James Orr and Caroline Tippens; staff, Youlanda Jones and Lt. Steve Sherfield; administrators, Shannon Burgin and Dr. Jim Byford; community/alumni, Dr. Michael Bobo and Joe Brasher; and UT Board of Trustees members, Barbara Castleman and Jerry Jackson.
