SEARCH COMMITTEE HONES CHANCELLOR CANDIDATES TO THREE; SENDS NAMES TO PRESIDENT
MARTIN, Tenn. – A search advisory committee has recommended the names of three candidates for the chancellor’s post at the University of Tennessee at Martin to Dr. John Petersen, University of Tennessee president.
The candidates submitted are Dr. Roosevelt Newson, vice president for academic affairs and provost,
University of North Alabama, Florence; Dr. Thomas Rakes, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, UT Martin; and Dr. John Schwenn, vice president for academic affairs, Emporia State University,
Emporia, Kan.
Interviews with a total of four candidates were completed April 17. Dr. Kaylene Gebert, executive vice president and provost, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, was the fourth candidate interviewed on campus.
Petersen is expected to select a successor to Dr. Nick Dunagan in early May. Last fall, Dunagan announced plans to retire in June 2007 with 34 years of service at UT Martin.
The on-campus interview process included meetings with faculty, staff, students and community leaders. A 14-member search advisory committee, appointed by Petersen, was assisted in the search by the firm of Baker Parker Global Executive Search, of Atlanta, Ga.
“It has been a distinct privilege to serve with this committee, which has been working hard since October to identify candidates with both the appropriate credentials and an appreciation for UT Martin’s mission. The four individuals we brought to campus were extremely impressed with our campus, and we are pleased to forward these names for Dr. Petersen’s consideration,” said Dr. Jerald Ogg, interim vice chancellor for student affairs, search committee chair.
