What is Interlibrary Loan?Interlibrary Loan (ILL) acquires, for research or study purposes, materials from other libraries which are not available in the UTM Library. These items may be sent on loan, as photocopies, or in microformat. Who may use these services?Interlibrary Loan services are available to staff, students and faculty of the University of Tennessee at Martin through the ILL office in the Paul Meek Library. Others may use the interlibrary loan services of their local public library or if they are non-UTM college students, they should use the Interlibrary loan services of their own campus library. How do I request material?Paper request forms are available at the Interlibrary Loan Office. They are also available at the library's Reference Desk. Electronic interlibrary loan request forms are also available. How long does it take?Interlibrary Loan requests can take from 1-4 weeks to arrive but usually are supplied within 10 days. You will be notified by telephone, e-mail, or snail mail when your material arrives. The notice will tell you where and when you may pick up your material and you will notified of charges, if any. How much does this cost? The Paul Meek Library holds reciprocal agreements with many libraries and makes every attempt to procure items at minimal or no cost to the user. When we cannot obtain items from a reciprocal library, some costs will be passed on to patrons. PML will not pass on charges over those authorized on request form(s). How long may I keep this material?Loan periods average 2-3 weeks, and in some cases renewals of 1-2 weeks are possible. Are there any restrictions?Ordinarily, we cannot process requests to borrow: materials already owned by the Paul Meek Library; whole periodical volumes; rare or valuable materials; basic reference materials; bulky or fragile materials. WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Direct inquiries to libloan@utm.edu, Doris Nell Sloan, or Earlene J. Moore for further information. The ILL office is located in Room 146 of the Paul Meek Library. Hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00- 5:00 pm. Help is available at the reference desk at other times.
