William Parker Caldwell (1832-1903)


William Parker Caldwell was born in Christmasville, Tennessee on November 8, 1832. He attended at McLemoresville, Tennessee and Princeton, Kentucky and later studied law at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was admitted to the bar in 1853 and practiced in both Union City and Dresden. Caldwell became a member of the State House of Representatives in 1857 for only a single term. He was a presidential elector in 1860 for the Democratic ticket of Douglas and Johnson. He was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1868. Caldwell was elected to United States House of Representatives in 1874 and served in the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses. His campaign to run for the Forty-six Congress failed in 1878. He returned to West Tennessee and resumed the practice of law in Gardner, Tennessee. In his twilight years he served as State senator from 1891 to 1893. William Parker Caldwell passed away June 7, 1903 and is interred in the Caldwell Cemetery.
