| Brief History: | The construction of Gooch Hall
was completed in the fall of 1974. The building
was originally known as the Education, Home Economics and Nursing Building. It was officially
named on September 9, 1976, memorializing Cecil M. Gooch and honoring Boyce A. Gooch,
major contributors to the university. Gooch Hall consists of 118,288 square feet and contains a
182 seat auditorium and numerous classrooms and offices. At present, it houses the offices and
classrooms of the Educational Studies and Education Administration programs, Communications
Department, the Human Environmental Sciences Department, and the Nursing Department. It
also serves as office space for the Center of Environmental and Conservation Education, the
Center of Excellence for Science and Mathematics Education, the Continuing Education,
Evening School, and Public Service Department and Continuing Education, Evening School, and
Public Service program and the State Department of Education.
