Date of Construction was started: 1899-1900
Completion Date: 1900

Brief History: This building originally served as the offices and classrooms of the Hall-Moody Institute and later Hall-Moody Normal School from 1900 to 1926. The Hall-Moody Institute was named in honor of two eminent Baptist ministers of the era - J. N. Hall and J. B. Moody. From 1912 to 1913, the bell tower was removed and a new facade was constructed which included columns and additional classroom space. The State of Tennessee purchased the building and adjacent property in 1927 to create a junior college for West Tennessee. When the State of Tennessee purchased the building it measured 132 feet by 117 feet, had fourteen classrooms, a 450 seat auditorium, a library and three offices. The University of Tennessee Junior College used the building initially for classrooms, but as the campus expanded and other buildings were constructed administrative offices began to gradually replace the classrooms. During most of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's, the building operated as the administrative hub of the campus. Following the construction of the new Administration Building in 1959, the building was used for various purposes including storage and finally for the Music and Drama Departments. A fire destroyed the structure on Thanksgiving Day 1970.
Date of Destruction: November 26, 1970.
