Why Do We Seek Private Gifts?

Occasionally, friends will ask us, "Why do you solicit private gifts? Are they really needed? After all, the University of Tennessee at Martin is a state institution."

We'll let you decide after you view the following.

$ Since 1993 magazine costs have increased 100%.

$ Over the last decade, overall library prices have soared 145%, twice as much as national health care costs.

$ The library's current endowment totals less than most of our peer institutions.

$ In 2001-2002 alone, our library costs soared over 8%.

$ State budget allocations have remained static for a number of years, making private giving all the more important for the library.

The University Library is at the core of a college student's educational experience. Libraries provide the link between individual people and humanity's recorded knowledge. Collegiate study and academic research in the modern world requires library resources - lots of them. The Paul Meek Library is the one educational department on campus that has no alumni. In order to maintain first-rate service, the Library must rely on financial help from all university alumni and friends. Join us as we aid the " divine gift of language and letters to outlive us all.* "

If you would like to join us in our plans for these exciting goals, please contact the University's Development Office or feel free to refer to the University Advancement Office web-site.

For more information, please contact us at the library.
