Events and Reunions

“Back To The Land”

We invite you to join us as we celebrate the career of
Dr. Jim Byford
Retiring December 2009

This event will honor his 40 years in higher education - the last 22 of which have been at The University of Tennessee at Martin. Dr. Byford has touched many lives through teaching and mentoring, as an administrator, and as a leader in the community and throughout the Natural Resources professions. From his pioneering of our nations 4-H wildlife programs to his direct involvement with “Hunters For Hungry” in Tennessee, to his mediation of diverse representatives in agriculture and natural resources, he has shared his love of nature and wildlife to teach not only students, but the entire community around us about how to get “Back To The Land.” He has shown us why it is so important to maintain and appreciate the Land we live and depend on. Dr. Byford has proven time and again that one person can make a difference.

Please join us for an evening of music, laughter and memories.

To honor his lasting impact on our lives, we have established the James L. Byford Scholarship Endowment fund for which we have set a goal of $25,000 (the minimum required for such a tribute). At the mailing of this letter, the UT Martin Chapter of the Wildlife Society has made a pledge of $1,000 toward this goal. With your help, we will announce the scholarship at the retirement dinner. Please find a pledge card enclosed. Before making a deci-sion, please reflect upon the truly remarkable career of this special man. We are already a legacy to his 40 years of service, but now we can also begin a different kind of legacy through our contributions to this endowment. You may make a 3-5 year pledge at the $1,000 level ($200 a year for five years, for example).
We also are preparing a notebook of letters from those who have known, worked with, and loved Dr. Byford. Write him a letter and tell him how you feel about him. Send it to the above address with your reservation.
