As a recognized center of excellence in Tennessee and a respected leader among our peers, the College of Business and Public Affairs aspires to be the college of choice for students seeking the highest quality of classroom teaching and experiential learning.  It also seeks to be a primary contributor to the economic development of the region.

While knowledge of contemporary theories must remain an important attribute for students receiving a degree from the college, the global economy in which our graduates will function requires more.  Thus, the vision for the College of Business and Public Affairs is one of engagement, challenging students and faculty to directly confront the current economic/political environment while providing students—whether majoring in business, computer science, or political science—with the knowledge, skills, and abilities they need to prosper in a globally competitive economy.  To this end, the College cites the participation of its students in the State of Tennessee’s legislative internship program as well as the successful activities of the Oldham Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Education and the Regional Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (REED) Center.  While the College has taken the initial steps toward engaging students directly in solving problems facing contemporary business, the continuation of the College’s transition from traditional “book knowledge” to “hands-on experiential learning” will require a major commitment on the part of the college’s faculty and a significant infusion of external resources.
