The College of Engineering and Natural Sciences strives to provide high-quality education to our students, professional service to the region, and advancement of knowledge through the research activities of its faculty, students and staff. The educational mission is four-fold: first, to provide all students basic instruction in the concepts and methods of natural and cultural science, engineering, and mathematics; second, to provide programs of professional education in biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, geography, mathematics, physics and statistics; third, to provide instruction in the basic sciences as a foundation for students pursuing professional degrees in the health sciences and allied fields; and fourth, to prepare students to successfully continue their education at the graduate school of their choice.
While students learn much in the traditional classroom and laboratory experiences, it is recognized that the most powerful learning experiences result when students are actively engaged in their field of study. Our vision is to develop the resources and curriculum so that each student participates in an experiential learning opportunity. Examples of these opportunities include participating in high-level research or design projects with faculty mentors, participating on national design competition teams, completing co-op or internship programs, or completing an international exchange program. As a result of these experiences, our graduates will have a competitive edge as they begin their professional careers.
These competitive edge experiences, coupled with the expertise of our faculty and staff, will provide substantial professional service opportunities. The combined efforts of our faculty, staff and students also place this College in a position to positively impact the economic development of the region.
