The various types of private gifts the library receives from supporters supplements the limited state budget with funds which can be used exclusively for the purchase of library materials needed to support the university curriculum. These contributions benefit UT Martin students, faculty and area patrons by placing materials on the shelves which we would not otherwise have the resources to purchase. Private gifts and endowments are critical in the collection development program, and new book endowments will provide funds for monographs and related academic materials. Database and periodical subscription endowments will allow the library to increase the number of electronic journal databases and periodicals to benefit both students and faculty at the university.

 

A Museum Exhibit Endowment would assist in attracting exhibits for the cultural benefit of the university and local communities. A materials endowment would provide for the acquisition of books, non-print media and other resources for the library while also offering a naming opportunity in the bibliographical instruction classroom. All of the endowment opportunities cited above, as well as regular contributions to our Library Development and Alumni funds, provide critical assistance to the library at a time of declining state appropriations. This private support is vitally important in meeting our mission to serve the university and surrounding northwest Tennessee area as a major information resource facility.
