Academic Programs and Faculty

Enhancement

$2,000,000

Placing a priority on faculty benefits our West Tennessee community, the institution as a whole, but most of all, our students.  It is vitally important that we are able to attract talented teachers, and keep them here.  A well-endowed faculty enrichment fund will help us be more competitive with other institutions by enabling us to offer our best professors well-deserved enrichment opportunities such as time for personal studies and creative work in their field or support for research endeavors and grant writing.  Such opportunities will not only help our faculty grow as teachers and scholars, but, in turn, will enhance the learning environment for every student they teach or advise .

Campus Security and Beautification

$2,000,000

UT Martin is a picturesque campus, recently noted among six southeastern U.S. colleges and universities and 49 in the nation recognized in the campus beauty category in Kaplan's Guide to 328 Most Interesting Colleges.  A rich learning environment attracts top students and enhances the academic process in areas such as landscape management, the arts, and experiential learning in agriculture and engineering.  Located in a college community recognized nationally for its safety, UT Martin's goal is to maintain its status as the safest campus in the state and the sixth safest in the southeast.  Private support for a student plaza, benches, lighting and gateway entrances to the campus also provide unique naming opportunities.

Student Enrichment

$4,000,000

  • Student Aid - Scholarships play a critical role in recruiting the most qualified students.  UT Martin's scholarship program, along with its strong commitment to quality undergraduate education, enhances the university's position in the marketplace and helps ensure its vitality.  Scholarships that benefit students from every academic college assist UT Martin in recruitment efforts across the state.
  • Honors Enrichment Fund - UT Martin's campus culture encourages academic excellence and places a high value on the individual learner.  Support for an Honors Program Enrichment Fund at the University of Tennessee at Martin will enhance an environment of excellence where academic distinction can flourish.  Endowments are needed for Honors Travel/Study, Honors Enhancement, and the Academic Speakers Series.
  • International Initiatives - One of UT Martin's primary goals is to internationalize the student body, faculty, and curriculum and to promote international development and partnerships in West Tennessee .  International travel opportunities are being made available to increasing numbers of students and faculty.  A new Center for Global Studies and International Education is sponsoring international travel and study programs, exchange programs, and promoting international investments and partnerships in the region.  Support is needed to endow international travel scholarships, study-abroad and exchange programs, and recruitment efforts for ESL classes and short-term training programs.
  • Student Leadership - Imagine a campus where students are mentored by proven leaders.  Imagine students applying leadership skills in campus organizations and in their communities.  At UT Martin, you don't have to imagine it.  UT Martin provides leadership training opportunities – and more – for our future leaders.  A $1 million endowment is needed to secure the program's legacy.

Center for Teaching and Learning

$1,000,000

This center would provide training in current “best of practice” teaching and technology integration.  Cutting edge strategies would be modeled and research conducted to confirm the efficacy of preferred practices including content and instructional delivery.  Several examples of areas of inquiry that could be explored include the scientific study of preferred learning modes, technology integration or enhancement effects, special accommodations related to technology integration, and critical analysis of internship and clinical field practices.

"UT Martin was one of the best decisions that I've made in my lifetime. Great school, great education, great fun and friends for life!"

- Jerry Reese,
Class of 1987
