The University of Tennessee at Martin
27th Annual Honor Band
The University of Tennessee at Martin proudly announces the 2006 Honor Band Symposium! The UTM campus will provide the backdrop for the symposium to be held on campus Thursday February 2 nd through Saturday February 4th, 2006. This will be an outstanding opportunity for approximately four hundred of the region’s finest young wind and percussion students to rehearse and perform challenging music, work with outstanding clinicians, and have an opportunity to meet UTM faculty and students.
We will continue with the successful format of last year’s event offering two 11/12 grade bands, one 9/10 grade band, one 7/8 middle school band and one high school percussion ensemble. This year we are fortunate to have as clinicians:
Frank Dubuy: West Point, Southeastern Louisiana University, Hamilton HS
Conductor for the Eleventh and Twelfth Grade Symphonic Band
Elva Kaye Lance: Mississippi State University
Conductor for the Eleventh and Twelfth Grade Concert Band
Jim Campbell: University of Kentucky
Conductor for the Eleventh and Twelfth Grade Percussion Ensemble
Jeff Phillips: Pope John Paul II High School
Conductor for the Ninth and Tenth Grade Honor Band
Marsha Hartwein: Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet HS
Conductor for the Seventh and Eighth Grade Honor Band
We will also be expanding our format to include a “Directors Session” with Lt Col Frank Dubuy.
Each student must be recommended by you and should be an outstanding instrumentalist capable of performing advanced literature at his/her individual grade level. Each applicant must submit an application form. As their director, you need to fill out the confidential recommendation on the back of the application form. It is important to rank your students with the highest nomination receiving a ranking of one (strongest player 1, weakest nominee 10).
The fee for the UT Martin Honor Band is $35.00 per student. The honor band fee includes the cost of all music, clinician’s honorarium and travel, and a UTM Honor Band patch. To be fair to all, we can no longer accept checks the first day of the honor band. Total payment must be received by Wednesday January 30, 2006. There will be no exceptions. Alternate students will be selected to replace students not paying the fee by this date. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds. Meals will be the responsibility of the students. All hotel reservations are to be made by the director directly with the hotel. Housing is available in Martin and Union City. Please ask for the special UT Martin Honor Band rate.
