University Bands - Mr. Matthew Stratton
Matthew Stratton joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall of 2010. He serves as instructor of the Tuba/Euphonium studio and Director of Athletic Bands. Prior to his appointment, Stratton was a music teacher in the Monroe County Community School Corporation of Bloomington, IN. His teaching duties there included choir, orchestra, and band, from elementary through high school. During this tenure, he received the nomination of three students to the Who's Who Among Americas Teachers publication.
Stratton has participated in DCI as a member of the Patriots and The Cadets. He was the Brass Caption Head for the Patriots, and has taught Magic of Orlando, Orlando, FL, The Blue Stars, LaCrosse, WI. He is currently teaching with the Bluecoats of Canton, OH. Stratton is in constant demand as a clinician and consultant for the marching arts. He is often invited to guest conduct and adjudicate for local, regional, and national associations. Recent engagements include Boston University at the Tanglewood Institute, and Arcadia High School in Los Angeles, CAStratton enjoys a side hobby of arranging music for athletic bands. He is in the process of cultivating a library of Basketball Band arrangements that are being considered for publication. Stratton earned the Bachelor of Music Education and Performers Certificate from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. He holds the MM Tuba Performance and is ABD towards the DM Brass Pedagogy Tuba from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He is a member of National Association for Music Education, International Tuba Euphonium Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity. His primary teachers are Don Burke, C. Rudolph Emilson, Russel Mikkelson, Harvey Phillips and Daniel Perantoni. |
