Dietetic Internship Program

The dietetic Internship Program in dietetics (DI) at The University of Tennessee at Martin is a postbaccalaureate program, generalist and interdisciplinary in nature. The DI consists of 200 hours of didactic and 1080 hours of supervised practice experience divided into rotations in food systems management, clinical dietetics and community nutrition. The program is offered at the graduate level, with the option of combining the DI with a master of science degree in human environmental sciences.

The DI program at UT Martin is a cooperative program between the university and hospitals, health care facilities and food service institutions in West Tennessee and Kentucky from Memphis to Jackson, Tenn., to Paducah, Ky. Students in the program may choose two options: (1) work 20 hours per week for four demesters, fall and spring completing the program in two years or (2) work 40 hours per week for two semesters, fall and spring, completing the program in two semesters. Program requirements and duration are innovative and flexible to increase accessibility for persons with unique family, work or financial constraints.

Program graduates will be competent in the ADA performance requirements for entry-level dietitians and can successfully practice as clinical, community, or administrative dietitians.

If you are admitted to DI, you may also choose to complete a master's degree. As a DI student, you are required to enroll in the DI curriculum courses, totaling 12 semester hours, which may be applied toward a master's degree.
