The Department of Campus Recreation has employment opportunities available in the areas of recreational supervision, aquatics, facilities, fitness, intramurals, and special events. All positions within Campus Recreation are customer service related. To apply for any listed position you may come by the Office of Campus Recreation and fill out an employment application form. Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the Office of Campus Recreation (1020 Elam Center).
Recreational Supervisor- The Recreational Supervisor oversees evening and weekend operations of the Elam Center, Skyhawk Fieldhouse, and recreational fields. Duties include: opening and closing the facility, ensuring proper usage of the facility, reporting problems, providing customer service, and handling emergencies and issues with patrons. Other responsibilities include supervising intramural sports, rec check, special events, aquatics and fitness; enforcing policies and procedures; and assisting in the promotion of the various sport and recreational programs. Candidates may apply for the position in their sophomore year, but must be classified as a junior upon their first day of work; must have a minimum of a 2.25 cumulative G.P.A.; have a demonstrated appreciation and knowledge of various sport and recreation activities and have good communication and proven human relation skills. Preferred qualifications include CPR and First Aid certifications, lifeguard certification and officiating certification in soccer, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Interviews take place once a year in April.
Lifeguard- Lifeguarding involves patron surveillance, ensuring the safety of patrons who utilize the pool for recreational purposes, and enforcing rules/regulations. All lifeguards are expected to represent Campus Recreation in a professional, mature, and positive manner. All applicants must have a current American Red Cross certification in lifeguard training, first aid, CPR, and AED.
Swim Instructor- Responsible for teaching children and adult swim lessons in the Learn to Swim Program. All swim instructors are expected to represent Campus Recreation in a professional, mature, and positive manner. A current Water Safety Instructor certification from the American Red Cross is preferred.
Office Attendant- Responsible for providing positive customer service and clerical support for the Professional Staff. Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting patrons, answering phone calls, selling daily guest passes, copying, filing, and keyboarding. All office attendants are expected to represent Campus Recreation in a professional, mature, positive manner, be a self-motivator, and have good communication skills.
Rec Check Attendant- Responsible for checking ID’s, checking out/in equipment, equipment inventory, answering phone calls, selling daily guest passes and for providing patrons information regarding Campus Recreation programs, facility events and hours of operation. In addition, attendants will serve as an operator to assist the recreational supervisors on nights and weekends. Rec. Check attendants must be customer service oriented, mature, responsible, firm, and friendly when dealing with patrons. Certified CPR and first aid individuals are preferred.
Fitness Center Attendant- Friendly, Reliable Staff Needed. Responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the fitness center including, but not limited to: checking student ID’s, cleaning equipment, spotting patrons when necessary, and enforcing rules/regulations. Certified CPR and first aid individuals are preferred.
Officials- Officials have the unique opportunity to work in an environment that is competitive, challenging and full of excitement. This position is one of the few student jobs that have the mix of responsibility, decision-making, leadership, athleticism and people skills that are necessary in sports and officiating. No experience necessary! We will teach you the skills to be successful. Officials must be sport knowledgeable, assertive, firm, fair, friendly and professional. Earn $7.00 per game. Officials are needed for soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and softball.
Scorekeepers- No experience necessary! Let us teach you the skills you need. Scorekeepers must be sport knowledgeable, assertive, firm, fair, friendly and professional. Jobs are available in intramural basketball and softball.
Field Maintenance – Field maintenance staff is responsible for preparing fields for intramural competition, which includes things such as: painting fields, putting up fences, moving bleachers, working up fields, and mowing. The job requires daytime, evening or weekend shifts. However, hours are flexible depending on what needs to be done. Most importantly this position requires a highly self-motivated person who is capable of performing the job requirement and working on their own.
Special Event Staff - The special event staff is often called upon to assist with the management, set-up and strike of events in and around the facility. Some of the events include: concerts, picnics, Greek events, commencement, summer camps, leadership activities and etc. The job requires daytime, evening or weekend shifts. However, hours are flexible depending on what needs to be done. Most importantly this position requires a highly self-motivated person who is capable of performing the job requirement and working on their own.
