Fellowships
and Assistantships
Application
for Graduate Assistantship
A limited number of graduate assistantships are
available to qualified students. Inquiries about
these should be directed to the Dean of Graduate
Studies. Assistantships carry a fixed stipend
for 10 or 12 months. They also provide a waiver
of all tuition charges, including out-of-state
fees.
Positions as assistant head residents of the
residence halls are available. Remuneration for
these include waiver of all tuition charges, including
out-of-state fee, for 6 hours per semester, free
room and board, and a monthly stipend.
Graduate assistants are expected to enroll for
no more than the appropriate fraction of the maximum
course load as specified in the following table:

International
students may not apply for an assistantship
until they have completed at least one term of
graduate work. Their knowledge of the specific
field in which they may work, and their command
of the English language, must be evaluated thoroughly
by faculty supervisors before an award is made.
Minority Tuition
Fellowships
Coordinators can nominate eligible students
for a limited number of Minority Tuition Scholarships.
If you are interested in this scholarship, contact
your graduate coordinator.
Nature of Award

Tuition scholarship for a minimum of 2,
and a maximum of 9, credit hours (degree credit
coursework).

Available for Fall and Spring semesters
(and Summer if funds are still available),
based on satisfactory performance and progress
toward completion of the desired degree.
Minimal Qualifications

Tennessee residence

Unconditional or Conditional Admission to
a UTM graduate degree program (Permission
of the Dean of Graduate Studies necessary
to change degree program)

Enrolled students must be in Good Standing
academically

Enrollment of a minimum of 2 credit hours
of degree credit coursework.
Desired Qualifications

Beginning student (no more than 6 semester
hours taken prior to Fall semester)

Admission to a degree program which has
a significant minority underrepresentation
(first priority: MSAOM; second priority: MBA,
MSEd, or MSFCS).
Deadline for Nominations
-
The nomination recommendation form should
be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office
by the Graduate Coordinator two weeks prior
to the beginning of the semester. Nominations
received after that deadline will be considered
on an ad hoc basis subject to the availability
of funds.
