MBA/MAc Checklist
The graduate student is responsible for ensuring
that procedures are followed in his/her degree
progress. This list is a summary of important
points not covered in the UTM catalog. Forms used
by the graduate programs are available at:

Building
First Semester:
- Advisor Assignment: MBA
and MAc students are advised by the Graduate
Coordinator for the School of Business Administration.
Any student may, with the approval of the Graduate
Coordinator, request another graduate faculty
member as his/her advisor.
- Declaration of Major: Students
are admitted to the MBA program. No declaration
is required unless the student plans to change
majors. Students who want to change their program
of study should consult with the faculty advisor
to begin the change procedure.
Next-to-Last Semester:
- Intent to Graduate Card: Should be filed with the Graduate Studies
Office no later than the beginning of
the semester prior to completion of your Master's
Degree.
- Management 790/Accounting 790: When registering for the final semester, the
student should consult with the Graduate Coordinator
or the student's advisor about registering for
Management 790/Accounting 790, Strategic Management/Business
Policy. Management 790/Accounting 790 must
be completed with a "B" during the last semester
of study. Students not earning a "B" in Policy
are required to successfully complete a comprehensive
examination administered during the following
semester.
Students, who do not have at least a cumulative
3.00 GPA or who lack any prerequisites or corequisites
will not be allowed to enroll in Management
790/Accounting 790.
Last Semester:
- Complete Management 790/Accounting
790, Strategic Management/Business Policy: Accounting and Business Administration students
are required to take written comprehensive examinations
which are an integral part of Management 790.
Students earning a grade of at least a "B" in
the course have represented successful completion
of a comprehensive exam. Students not earning
at least a "B" will be required to take a comprehensive
exam following the existing catalog guidelines
regarding repeating the comprehensive examination.
Students must take Management 790 in their last
semester and must contact the Coordinator of
Graduate Programs in Business or the student's
advisor relative to scheduling.
- Application for a Degree: To be filed in the Records Office ,
102 Administration Building, at the beginning
of the semester you will complete your Master's
Degree.
Failure to Complete Management 790/Accounting
790 with a "B":
In the event that a student fails to complete Management
790 with a "B", the student must complete a comprehensive
examination the following semester.
- Permission to Take Comp Exam When
Not Enrolled: Any students not enrolled
in a graduate class during the semester he/she
intends to take the comprehensive exam must
complete the form, "Permission to Take Graduate
Comprehensive Exam When Not Enrolled," and pay
a fee equal to the registration fee for one
hour of graduate credit at the in-state rate.
- Comprehensive Exam: The
graduate student must take a four-hour written
comprehensive examination during the semester
in which he/she expects to receive the degree.
The exam is given on a Saturday morning from
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in Martin and Jackson.
- Notification of Comprehensive Examination: The student will be notified by mail
of the exam date and time. The exam will be
given at least three (3) weeks before the end
of the current semester. The student may make
arrangements to meet with each member of the
examination committee individually to obtain
study materials.
- Notification of Comp Exam Results: Each student is sent a letter informing
him/her of exam results. Exam results CANNOT
be provided over the telephone.
- Failure to Successfully Complete Comp
Exam: Students failing to successfully
complete the Comp Exam should consult the current
catalog for the appropriate course of action.
