Science Curricular Efforts For The Elementary School

During the months of August through December of 1995, 17 teachers of grades kindergarten through grade 8 worked to prepare the third edition of the Science Activities Manual: K-8 . The third edition or World Wide Web Edition (1997) conformed to a unique curricular concept, and is also based on the National Science Education Standards . Grade level specific pages have been constructed based on this most recent effort to improve the quality of life of K-8 students through the study of science. The resulting classroom connectors can be found at Science Activities Manual: K-8.

Since the publication of the Science Activities Manual K - 8 , World Wide Web Edition in 1997 teachers from all over the world have expressed an interest in using SAM . Many teachers still adapt the classroom connectors included in SAM as they construct new and challenging curricular efforts.

Environmental Science Curricular Efforts For The Elementary School

Three online entries are being prepared to aid in meeting the need for environmental science activities in the elementary school. The first of these efforts Environmental Science Activities Manual: K-2 and Environmental Science Activities Manual: 3-5 are now available. The remaining Environmental Science Activities Manual: 6-8 will follow shortly. All three preparations are being assembled from activities included in the very popular Science Activities Manual: K-8 .

Physical Science Curricular Efforts

During the Summer of 1995 a group of teachers participated in an intensive two-week program presented by CESME in which they were trained in the use of the Learning Cycle and the PSAM. The Physical Science Activity Manual contains 34 hands-on activities to bring excitement to the physical science classroom. The activities can be download for the Macintosh which includes an (MS Word) version of the entire manual or for the PC which includes a Windows (Wordperfect) version of the entire manual. A final option is the downloading of a PDF version. Individual chapters may be downloaded by clicking the appropriate version beside the title.

High School Ecology Curricular Efforts

Using the Four Components for Science Education originally presented in the Design Foundation, the CE/CE Online offers a detailed presentation for Ecology And The Conservation Of Natural Resources . This curricular effort is intended as a culminating experience whose mission is aided by knowledge of biology, chemistry, and geology. The Ecology And The Conservation of Natural Resources Home Page includes the content topics, corresponding content objectives, and classroom connectors (under construction) in the tradition of the Science Activities Manual: K-8 . Correlation with the National Science Education Standards has also been included. CE/CE Online Themes, Standards, and Benchmarks have been incorporated to conform with the Design Foundation's Four Component's for Science Education.
