INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: The learner will:

CLASSROOM CONNECTOR
MATERIALS:
Books on dinosaurs, pictures of dinosaurs, art paper and writing paper
SET:
Everyone has heard of dinosaurs - those huge, strange looking beasts that lived a long time ago. Look at this animal's picture. What is the animal? We have been studying animals that eat green plants and manufacture food. Do you think this animal ate green plants? (response) Yes, most of the dinosaurs did eat green plants. There were many different kinds of dinosaurs a long, long time ago. The word DINOSAUR means terrible lizard". The dinosaur is considered a PREHISTORIC ANIMAL. These animals do not live today. Where might we see a dinosaur today? (Books, museums) Only in museums do we see their skeletons; in books and on film we may see pictures drawn to look like different kinds of dinosaurs.
INSTRUCTION:
Some of the dinosaurs were terrible and ferocious. Others were said to be quiet and peaceful. The dinosaurs that were meat eaters had large jaws and sharp teeth. Those that ate plants had longer, thinner necks and smaller heads and flat teeth. The dinosaurs were much larger than animals we know that live today.
ACTIVE PARTICIPATION:
(Use different animal pictures.) I want you to look at the different animal pictures and compare the dinosaur with the other animals in size. Match the name and characteristics with the dinosaur.
CLOSURE:
(Write the letters T.L. on the board) The letters "T.L." stand for TERRIBLE LIZARD. A dinosaur has been called a "terrible lizard." Whisper to your neighbor some of the things you have learned about dinosaurs.
ENRICHMENT:
I have a number of books about these animals of long, long ago. We know about these animals because of their fossils and the people who have dug up their bones and reassembled them. I want you to look at the books that I have placed on the book rack for you to look at and find things about dinosaurs that interest you. (Give time for students to draw pictures of favorite and share learned findings with class).
