Textbook, magazines for pictures

Today we are going to learn why we need to observe safety rules while using machines.

(Show pictures of different types of machines. Example: chain saw, printing press, lawn mower, drill, welding machine. List and discuss safety rules that need to be observed in each picture. Discuss the consequences if proper safety rules are not observed.)

(On the board, write the statement: We have a speed limit rule of 55 mph, 65 mph on interstate highways, for cars and trucks on our roads and highways.) Students, write the reasons for having a speed limit rule. Write the consequences for not observing the speed limit rule.

(Put children in groups of 4 to create a safety poster portraying correct safety procedures.)

Whisper to your neighbor a safety rule that we have studied. (pause) Give one reason why the safety rule should be followed. (response)

List two machines at home and two safety rules that should be observed in using the machines.
