Teaching Corp Workshop
Purpose
Expected outcomes for paticipants
- Increase a teacher’s biological and physical knowledge about Reelfoot Lake.
- Increase self confidence and leadership skills while working with teacher teams.
- Develop Reelfoot-specific lesson plans based on "physical and biological characteristics of sites” including the ecological interactions, physical and chemical measurements, water, soil, weather, etc." at Reelfoot Lake for K – 12 teachers.
- Increase specific knowledge about different sites, protocols, and methods useful in teaching students during future field trips.
- Gather images, data, and experiences that will be shared on the Center Website and with other teachers from the attendees respective school districts.
Long-term goals
- Create long-term teacher and student interest in science by supporting focused immersion workshops in sciences of Reelfoot Lake.
- Prepare and share workshop outcomes via internet website so teachers and students can review accomplishments.
- Document animal & plant species, habitat, and the ecological interactions by studying specific sites at the lake.
Funding
The Teachers Corp Workshops are funded through a US Department of Education Grant to the department of Biological Sciences and Reelfoot Lake Research and Teaching Center.
Duration
The workshop consists of 5 days of intense instruction.
