Exam Information
Animal Ecology (Zoology 441)

Format: 50-60% short answer, including multiple choice, fill-in, brief (10 word or less) explanation, simple graph drawing/recognition.  40-50% longer essay, problem solving, more complex graph drawing.

Content: you will be expected to know the basic processes, definitions, mathematical equations, and hypotheses described in lectures and reading assignments AND to be able to apply these to situations you have not seen before.  Sometimes you may be expected to know specific examples from assigned readings; I will tell you ahead of time if this is the case.  ALL EXAMS ARE COMPREHENSIVE; you should know the main principles covered in each section throughout the term, and there may be specific questions about areas covered in previous exams, especially if there are areas with which many people had difficulty.  I will let you know those areas people found difficult on each exam; you can expect more questions like them on subsequent exams.

Exams From Previous Terms:  Some examples of old are given here.  Use old exams as guides to the format of the exams.  Some of the material covered changes from semester to semester so if you see a question that is about something that's not in your notes or reading, it means it's something we haven't covered this term, and you don't need to know it.  If you're in doubt about whether you need to know something or not, PLEASE ASK ME!  The order in which material is covered may also change, so material covered on one exam this semester may be covered on a different exam from a previous semester (so check them all!). Remember that final exams are comprehensive so you will find material relevant to exams 1 and 2 on the final exam.
