IN THE SHADOWS OF GAY STREET

<< This photograph was taken in an alleyway behind Sterchi’s facing northeast toward the Old City in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The JFG Coffee Company building can be seen in the center on 200 West Jackson Street, along with other industrial buildings of the area. The building was built in 1924, but has long been abandoned for the cheaper property values and taxes of the city’s outer rims.

Most of the Old City is in this deteriorating shape, save for a few shops that have inhabited the lower floors of the industrial buildings.
