Opportunities for Pre-Professional Health Sciences Students

Rehab Aide Training Program and Summer jobs:
Pre-Physcial Therapy and Pre-Occupational therapy studentsare invited to apply for this two week program with certificate. Class dates are 5/12, 5/14, 5/16, 5/19, 5/21 and 5/23 from 9 am to 11:30 am. Participants will be eligible for summer jobs with Rehab America, Inc in a rehab facility. They have over 30 facilities in West and middle TN, and every effort will be made to place graduates of the program near their homes. This experience can also be used on graduate health professions applications.

Pre-med Internship Volunteer Program, Jackson TN
Ten week summer program that orients pre-medical students to all areas and functions of a hospital. It is conducted at Jackson-Madison Hospital in Jackson, TN. There will be clinical rotations through all areas and departments in the hospital. Applicants must be at least sophomore year by June 1, 2008, have a Cum GPA of 3.0 , and plan to enter the medical profession. Contact person is Lisa Gunn at Jackson Madison County Genreal Hospital. Practice graduate admissions school tests are available free at the Paul Meek library. Online courses for graduate school admissions tests are available for $85 (also at the library). For additional information, contact John Bell at ext 7064.
PCAT Practice Test - there is now an official PCAT Practice exam available from the test makers of the PCAT exam. For more information, go to PCATweb.info or call 800-622-3231.
The Tumor Board at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin meets every Wednesday at noon. Dr Susan Lowery, Chief of Staff, invites all pre-professional students to attend. This seminar brings current concepts in diagnosis, staging, and the treatment of cancers, to members of the medical staff. Light lunch is served. The seminar brings together specialities, including Medical , Surgical, Radiation Oncology and Pathology to discusss diagnosis, staging, and multimodality approches to the treatment of cancer. It is held in the Private Dining Room.
Volunteer Community Hospital hires students to train in Phlebotomy. They have flexible hours that can work around a busy school schedule. Contact the Human Resources Department for job availability and further details. ( Please note that this involves blood and needles) .
