Pre-Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists assess, plan, organize and participate in rehabilitative programs that help restore vocational, homemaking, daily living skills and general independence to disabled persons.
Occupational Therapy majors take 90 hours of basic and required courses at UT Martin, then transfer to UT Memphis Health Science Center or other schools to complete a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy. The Masters in Occupational Therapy takes approximately 2-3 years to complete.
The US Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook projects that: Employment is projected to increase faster than the average through 2012 as rapid growth in number of middle-aged and elderly individuals increases the demand for services.
The following required courses must be completed with grades of C or better in order to be competitive to enter the OT program at UT Memphis.
Program of Study
*Must include laboratory experiences completed within five years prior to application. Upper level courses will be accepted to meet the lower level science requirements if taken within five years of application. **Lifespan courses must include the entire lifespan. In some institutions, more than one course may be necessary to complete this requirement. ***Recommended courses include Political Science, Government, Economics ##Recommended courses include foreign language (Spanish preferred), Philosophy, Logic, Ethics, Literature or fine arts appreciation. ###Recommended courses include computer/technology skills, kinesiology, education, technical or critical writing, fine and performing arts, language and communicaton systems, philosophy, and indusstrial arts or activitiy-based courses (e.g., woodworking, ceramics, photography.
