Pre-Optometry
Optometrists diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. They examine eyes and visual systems, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment. They may prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions. They examine eyes to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.
Pre-Optometry majors usually follow a Biology or Chemistry curriculum, and complete ninety hours of required course work. Then, they transfer to the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis , TN , which contracts with the state of TN to complete this training.
