TERESA COLLARD (B.A., M.A., Eastern Illinois University) teaches public speaking, interpersonal communications, senior seminar, and mass communications. Presently, she has completed 50 hours towards her doctorate in interpersonal communications at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  In addition to teaching, Ms. Collard devotes a great deal of time consulting on interpersonal communications and its applications to the business environment.  Her primary clients include ARO-Ingersol Rand Division in Angola, Indiana and Bryan, Ohio.  She has also consulted for Bekaert in Dyersburg, Tenn.  Ms. Collard also serves as the faculty advisor to the UT Martin chapter of Women in Communications.

 

RODNEY FREED (B.S., M.S., Murray State University) teaches courses in television production and directing, television news and photojournalism.  Mr. Freed has worked in the television industry for over 10  years and was most recently  the Director of Production for WBBH-TV (NBC) and WZVN-TV (ABC) in Ft. Myers, FL.  He also actively works with the local PBS affiliate WLJT-TV as a freelance director.  Mr. Freed is the faculty advisor for the student chapter of the Broadcasting Guild.

STACY FREED (B.A., M.S., Murray State University; M.B.A. University of Tennessee at Martin) has worked in various aspects of television, including directing newscasts and working with program logs in the traffic department. She also has experience in radio serving as traffic director. After completing graduate study in Organizational Communication, she now teaches public speaking and honors public speaking courses.

 

JEFF HOYER (A.A., Central College, B.A., Tabor College, M.S., Middle Tennessee State University, M.S., Ph.D., University of Tennessee) teaches public relations, journalism and communications and the world wide web.  He is also the faculty advisor for the Public Relations Student Society of America.  Mr. Hoyer has over 20 years experience in the areas of news writing, corporate public relations, curriculum editing, grant and proposal writing, technical editing and writing for several companies including Lockheed Martin and Bechtel Corporation.

ARTHUR HUNT (B.A. Marshall University, M.A. Marshall University, Ph.D. The University of Southern Mississippi) teaches courses in public speaking and voice and diction. His research interests include the study of media ecology which considers the cultural consequences of media change or how media affect social organizations, cognitive habits, and public discourse. Mr. Hunt is a three-time member of Who’s Who among America’s Teachers. He is a published author and has experience in radio performance and newspaper ad sales.

 

TOMI McCUTCHEN (B.S., University of Tennessee, Martin; M.A., University of Alabama) teaches newspaper journalism and advertising.  She has worked primarily as a copy editor for the Birmingham Post-Herald and The Decatur Daily in Alabama.  Mrs. Parrish is the advisor to the student newspaper, The Pacer, and is the business manager of The Spirit, UTM's yearbook. She also is the department's internship program coordinator and is currently a member of the Faculty Senate. [Homepage]


ROBERT NANNEY (B.S., B.S., University of Tennessee, Martin; M.J., Louisiana State University; Ph.D., Ohio University) Chairman of the department, teaches print journalism, desktop publishing and senior seminar.  He has 15 years' experience in journalism as reporter, photographer and managing editor.  He received the 1999 Outstanding Teaching Award by The University of Tennessee National Alumni Association and has been a faculty member with the Governor's School for the Humanities (held at UT Martin) for 10 years. He is co-founder of the department's new Visual Communications sequence. His research specialty is community journalism. He is a native of Dresden, Tenn.

 

JERALD OGG (B.S., B.S., The University of Tennessee, Martin; M.J., Louisiana State University; J.D., The University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Ph.D., Southern Illinois University at Carbondale) joined the faculty in 1987 and served as chair from 1997-2000.  In 2000, he became the Dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.  Dr. Ogg, who is also a Reserve Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General's ("JAG") Department and a licensed attorney in Tennessee and Louisiana, teaches Communications Law and Ethics as well as various public relations and journalism courses.  The founder of the Department's public relations sequence in 1989 and a former editor of The Pacer, he was awarded the 1998 Outstanding Teaching Award by The University of Tennessee National Alumni Association.  Dr. Ogg also served as president of the UT Martin Faculty Senate in 1998-1999, and he as been a faculty member of the Tennessee Governor's School for the Humanities since 1991.

 

RICHARD ROBINSON (B.S., University of Central Arkansas, M.A., University of Arkansas at Little Rock) teaches courses in radio broadcasting and public relations. Mr. Robinson has worked in the radio industry for over 19 years, including roles as on-air talent, news, sales and programming. He also worked professionally in governmental public relations for 14 years for the state of Arkansas. Mr. Robinson serves as the faculty advisor for WUTM-FM 90.3, the UT Martin campus radio station. Currently he is a Ph.D. student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He is also a broadcast, public relations and political consultant.

 

GARY STEINKE (B.A., M.A., Michigan State University; Ph.D., University of Michigan) has worked as a television director, filmmaker and in broadcast sales.  He teaches courses in radio and television production, film appreciation and broadcast management and sales.
