| James Fieser is a professor of philosophy at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He recievied his B.A. form Berea College (1980), and his M.A. and Ph. D. from Purdue University's Department of Philosophy (1983, 1986.) After teacing briefly at the University of Rio Grand and Christopher Newport University, he arrived at UT Martin in 1993. He is author, co-author, and editor of seven textbooks, including Moral Philosophy through the Ages (McGraw Hill, 2001), A Historical Introduction to Philosophy (Oxford University Prss, 2003), Socrates to Srtre and Beyond (McGraw Hill, 2003), and Philosophical Questions (Oxford University Press, 2005). He has edited and annotated the ten-volume Early Responses to Hume (Thoremmes Press, 1999-2003) and the five-volume Scottish Common Sense Philosophy (Thoemmes Press, 2000). He has published articles on the topics of David Hume, moral skepticism, rights theory, environmental ethics, business ethics, virtue theory, and natural law. He is founder and general editor of theInternet Encyclopedia of Philosophy web site (<www.lep.utm.edu>). In 2004 he was awarded Ut Martin's Cunningham Teaching and Scholarship award. His wife Laura is a Ut Martin graduate, and they have four young children, including twin daughters. |
