Voice Lessons '99 was useful in several ways. First, the people in the group were wonderful. They arrived with their opinions and weren't afraid to share them. As a composition teacher, I need to hear what other teachers think of what we do, and, although it's easy to become defensive, their perspectives prompted me to re-evaluate my pedagogical theory and practice. Also, I really enjoyed watching the others perform as teachers. As I occupied the student's role again, I remembered what students react to. Finally, I completed a writing project that had been hanging over my head for some time, and the feedback from the group was invaluable.
