Universidad de Guanajuato (Mexico)

The city of Guanajuato is the capital of the State of Guanajuato. It is located about 234 miles northwest of Mexico City, at an altitude of 6,583 ft. It is an historical and picturesque city, which owes its colonial splendor to the silver mines operated by the Spanish in the 16th and 17th centuries. The center is a maze of cobbled-stone streets and alleys that wind around the steep hillsides upon a small ravine, opening onto vistas of beautiful churches and small plazas and offering many enjoyable places to walk. Guanajuato is known for its climate, scenery, subterranean streets, and an International Cultural Event called the Cervantino Festival. The city exemplifies the cultural values of Mexico and the architectural splendor of the Spanish colonial period.

Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (Canada)

A comfortable, dynamic city of about 60,000 inhabitants 3 hours north of Quebec City, Chicoutimi is situated on the bluffs of the Saguenay River and at the entrance of a spectacular, 100-mile-long fjord. It boasts a beautiful park along its riverfront, a scenic downtown with historic landmarks, soaring cathedral spires, museums, and both traditional shops and modern shopping centers. The surrounding Saguenay Valley, stretching west to east from the Lac Saint-Jean to the Saint-Lawrence River, offers students many tourist sites and a stunning natural environment ideal for sporting activities: boating, white-water rafting, hiking, and cycling. On weekends, the University organizes important social events for students and also provides three major excursions: a tour of Quebec City, whale-watching in the Saint-Lawrence estuary at Tadoussac, and a trip to Lac Saint-Jean where students visit a ghost town and a unique zoo.
