Dual Credit Policies
Purpose

- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

Options
- Option A - Taught in high school by qualified high school instructor.
- Option B - Taught in high school by UT Martin faculty
- Option C - Taught outside the high school during the regular school day
- Option D - Taught outside the high school after the regular school day
Dual Credit Handbook
Extra Information
- Dual credit students are not "officially" accepted into UT Martin. Students wishing to continue taking UT Martin courses after high school must formally apply to the University.
- Students participating in dual credit courses must comply with the course syllabus and use all required texts and materials.
- Student ID cards will be issued to all dual credit students. The ID cards authorize students to use the University library and resources on a limited basis.
- Dual credit scheduling depends upon the high school's needs and scheduling. Close coordination between UT Martin and high schools ensures academic quality, student services, and faculty support.
Scholarships available
- Tennessee Lottery Dual Credit Grant: Students receive $300 per semester towards their dual credit tuition. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.75 in their college classes in order to continue receiving the grant.
- Tennessee Workforce Investment Act (WIA): A needs based scholarship available statewide.
- Local Scholarships: Funds have been established in selected areas in support of dual credit.

Fees and waivers
- Reduced fees: no application, no debt service, and no technology fees
- Fee deferment possible
- Dependent fee waivers for State and University of Tennessee (UT)/Tennessee Board of Regent (TBR) employees:
- 25% fee waiver for dependents of public school teachers and state employees
- 50% fee waiver for dependents of UT/TBR employees

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can the UT Martin grades transfer to other institutions?
In most cases, other institutions accept the transfer of UT Martin's grades, or credits. It is the students responsibility to contact the college or university they plan on attending to insure that the course will be accepted at those institutions. If a student encounters any difficulty in transferring a course, they should contact the UT Martin dual-credit office at 731-425-9277 or 1-888-UTM-GRAD.
- Can students withdraw from a dual credit course after the course begins?
Yes, students have the option to "drop" a dual credit course and receive a refund in accordance with university policies.
- Who teaches dual credit courses?
All dual credit courses are taught by either a full-time UT Martin faculty member or a UT Martin adjunct faculty. In many occasions, the high schools offering the dual credit courses also provide the adjunct faculty to teach the courses. In all cases, faculty teaching dual credit courses are fully qualified and meet the guidelines established by SACS. The University of Tennessee at Martin is accredited by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award bachelor's and master's degrees.
- Are dual credit courses different from other similar courses offered on the main campus at UT Martin?
No, dual credit courses meet the same academic standards and quality as all other courses offered.
- How are dual credit courses graded?
Dual credit courses are graded in accordance with criteria and standards established in the course syllabus. However, UT Martin does not get involved with the grading, content, or evaluation of the student's corresponding high school dual credit course.
