Non-Degree Programs – Knitting


 

Beginning Knitting - CANCELLED
Dates: Thursdays, Jan. 31 - Feb. 28 (5 wks)

Times: 6:00-8:00PM

Have you wanted to get into the world of knitting?  This introductory class will get you on your way.  You will learn how to choose yarns and read patterns.  You will learn the basic knitting stitches, including long-tail cast on, knit, purl, yarn over and bind off.  You will conclude the class with a finished project you can show off to all your friends.  Supplies will need to be purchased prior to the second meeting.  Supplies will range between $15 and $50, depending on the student's yarn and needle choices.

 

Sock Knitting
Dates: Tuesdays, April 9 - May 7 (5 wks)
Times: 6:00-8:00PM

Come join us to dip your toe into the wonderful world of sock knitting! In this 4-week class, you will learn how to knit socks from the cuff down.  We will be making a pair of adult-sized socks in this class. At the conclusion of the class, you will be able to comfortably navigate most sock patterns and be proficient in knitting in the round with double-point needles or with the Magic Loop Method.  Prerequisites:  Students should be proficient in casting on, knit and purl.  Some knowledge of increases and decreases is desirable but not necessary.  Supplies:  Students will need to bring 100 grams of fingering weight sock yarn (solid or self-striping) and knitting needles US 2.5 mm (either double-pointed needles OR a 40-inch circular needle, depending on the student's preference).

 

Colorwork (Advanced Knitting Techniques)
Dates: Tuesdays, Feb. 19 – April 2 (6 wks) (No class March 5)
Times: 6:00-8:00PM
Registration Fee: $75

This workshop will focus on different techniques designed to get color into your knitting. Participants will learn Fair Isle, stranded knitting, intarsia, double-knitting, illusion knitting, duplicate stitch, and how to add stripes. Students taking the class should already be able to knit and purl. Materials needed: TWO skeins of worsted weight yarn in different colors (Each skein should be at least 100 grams, a solid (non-variegated) color, and non-fuzzy); size US 8 knitting needles (either circular or straight, depending on the knitter's preference); and a blunt-ended darning needle.
