Non-Degree Programs – Basic Photography at UT Martin Ripley Center

 

Basic Digital Photography Camera Operation and Skills
Dates: August 15-Sept. 5
Times: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Registration Fee: $105
Instructor: Roger Hughes, graduate of the University of Tennessee Rocky Mountain School of Photography
Location:  UT Martin Ripley Center

Basic Digital Photography will allow you to make the most of your digital camera operations and use its advantages to improve your photographic skills. Whether you want to take better family snapshots or use professional techniques for maximum image creativity, this class starts you on your way to being a confident photographer. Course includes:

  • Camera Features and Functions
  • Exposure
  • Composure
  • Depth of Field
  • Focus
  • Photography Ideas
  • Exercises in Lighting
  • Portrait, Landscape, Action and Close-Up Shots

  • You will need your camera and operations manual and a tripod. Printed and e-mail handouts will be available. E-mail and class evaluations of student images will be utilized. This 12-hour course is the basis for the follow-up Advanced Photography skills class.


    Advanced Digital Photography - Creative Photography Skills
    Dates: Mondays, September 17-October 8
    Times: 6:00-9:00PM

    Instructor: Roger Hughes, graduate of the University of Tennessee Rocky Mountain School of Photography
    Location:  UT Martin Ripley Center

    This course is designed to follow-up the Basic Digital Photography course but is open to anyone familiar with digital camera operations and basic photography skills. The advanced camera skills of DSLR and other digital cameras will be discussed. Creative imaging techniques in landscape, wildlife, portrait and close-up photography will be practiced and critiqued. Exercises in low-light and night-time photography will be held. Personal digital cameras, operations manual and a tripod are required. This four evening course with 3 hours each night will include classroom and field experiences (depending on the weather). An extra optional day field trip on a weekend will be offered. Internet and e-mail evaluations and critiques of student images will be utilized.


    Basic Adobe Photoshop Elements
    Date: Coming in 2013
    Instructor: Roger Hughes

    Learn the basic functions, toolbards, filters, layers, masks, editing, palette and task panels of Adobe Photoshop Elements.  Create outstanding images and fine art photos from RAW and JPEG files.  Students must bring a laptop loaded with Elements 6, 7,8 or 9.  In class, furnished photo files and email materials will also be used.
