Janet Adair (English, 2017) is enrolled in the online Master’s Program in English at Arizona State University.

 

Spencer Atkins (English, 2017) published an article in the Winter 2017 edition of Mallorn, the Journal of the Tolkien Society, titled "On Tolkien's Presentation of Distributism in the Shire."

 

Greer Barnes (English, 2014) is a copywriter at a PR agency that works with tech companies and startups. She came to New York City for an editorial internship a few years ago and has been living and working there ever since. Greer is featured in the latest Alumni Spotlight.

 

Dr. Julie (Lumpkins) Basler (English, 1995) became the new President of Platt College in Aurora, Colorado, on September 1, 2019. Dr. Basler formerly served as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Platt College, which is a four-year institution that offers baccalaureate degrees in nursing (BSN). Madison (Rogers) Barnhill (Spanish, 2018) teaches Spanish at Houston County High School, TN.

 

Tamara Beard (English, 2017) lives in Germany and runs her own business called Wrapped Up Writing, providing services in editing, proofreading, and content writing. She is enrolled in a joint Master's Program in English and American Studies at the University of Bamberg.

 

Sarah Brunstad (English, 2011) completed the M.A. in English at Fordham University in 2013. She lives in Brooklyn, NY and is an associate editor at Marvel Comics where she works on over a dozen titles, including the upcoming Captain Marvel series. Sarah is also working on a novel.

 

Paige (Mason) Busby (English with a Japanese Minor, 2013) started the Ph.D. program in English at the Ohio State University in Fall 2017. She completed the M.A. in English at Auburn University in Spring 2017.

 

Kaylen Campbell (English, 2018) is enrolled in the Master’s Program in Education at UT Martin.

 

Lauren Delaney (English and Spanish, 2016) teaches English as a second language in South Korea.

 

Kate (Hein) Finegan (English, 2010) was awarded The Fiddlehead’s 2017 fiction prize and was runner-up for The Puritan’s 2017 Thomas Morton Memorial Prize. Her new chapbook The Size of Texas is available now from Penrose Press. Learn more about her work at https://katefinegan.ink/index.html.

 

Tyler Fitzgerald (Spanish with a Theatre Minor, 2013) completed the M.A. in Hispanic Literatures at Michigan State University in 2015 and a second M.A. in Urban Education at Cardinal Stritch University in 2017. He is a bilingual teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools.

 

Jonathan Lucas French (English, 2014) completed the M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Murray State University in Spring 2019.

 

Sarah Gillespie (Spanish, 2019) teaches Spanish at Westview High School in Martin, TN.

 

Dr. Phillip (Pip) Gordon (English, 2005) received the University of Wisconsin System's Dr. P.B. Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ+ People in November 2018. He is assistant professor of English and the coordinator of Gay Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Gordon is the first UW-Platteville faculty member to receive this award.

 

Cody Jarman (English and Theatre, 2015) received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2016 and used it to complete an M.A. in Irish Writing and Film at University College Cork in Cork. He is now enrolled in the Ph.D. program in English at The University of Texas at Austin, where he lives with his wife and fellow UTM English major Madilyn Peay Jarman. Madilyn (Peay) Jarman (English, 2016) received a Walter and Aldeheid Hohenstein Fellowship from the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society to help finance her graduate education at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Read more here.

 

Zachary King (Spanish, 2018) is commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and is on staff at the UT Martin ROTC program. He will begin training with Teach for America in May 2019 to teach Secondary Spanish in Charlotte, NC.

 

Lauren Maddox (English with a French Minor, 2018) is enrolled in the Ph.D. Program in Creative Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

 

Lauren Moore (English, 2018) is a Pre-Close Loan Specialist at Simmons Bank, Union City, TN.

 

Lucia Martinez (Spanish, 2016) teaches Spanish at Dyer County High School, TN.

 

James Payne (English, 2014) was promoted to Quality Assurance Analyst at Simmons Bank, Martin TN.

 

Stacey Richardson (English, 2011) works at Savant Learning Systems as a Content Development Project Manager and is enrolled in the Masters in Professional Writing program through Chatham University, Pittsburgh, PA.

 

Amy (Long) Sanchez (Spanish with a Minor in Business, 2012) recently started as a Trade Spend Analyst at Red's All Natural, a frozen burrito company. Previously she was working for a government contractor investigating insurance fraud. She has also been involved with local and foreign Spanish mission work at her church.

 

Krista Shaw (English, 2016) completed the M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Reinhardt University and is currently a part-time English instructor at Columbia State Community College, TN.

 

Chris Swann-Gunlefinger (English, 2011) is Assistant Director of Student Life at UT Martin.

 

Marcus Wakefield (Japanese Minor and Economics Major, 2015) works for AEON English conversation school in Japan.

 

Tara Kay White (French Minor and International Studies Major, 2016) manages the Child Advocacy Center in Jackson, TN. She is also a Certified Birth Doula and owns her own business. She plans to become a Certified Professional Midwife with the ultimate goal of creating a NGO that trains midwives in the developing nations of West Africa.

 

Janine Winfree (English and History, 2014) completed her M.S. in Library and Information science at UT Knoxville in 2016. In May 2019, she received the Ray Edmondson Fellowship at the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia for summer 2019.
