An engineering program consists primarily of the students, faculty, and staff that make up the department community. In addition, it is important that the alumni and an active advisory board continue to provide feedback to improve the program, and also to promote the goals of the program to the community at large. The UTM engineering faculty are dedicated professionals who are committed to a teaching profession. In addition, they have practiced as engineers, and continue to be active in the profession. The UTM engineering students enjoy being involved in student projects that allow them to apply the theoretical concepts that they learn in the classroom. They are hardworking, and they take great ownership of the engineering program. There are several opportunities for students to work within the engineering department. The engineering department has a fulltime electronics technician and a fulltime administrative assistant. They help to keep the department running smoothly. The program has a very active Engineering Industrial Advisory Board. The IAB members represent local and regional firms in the various engineering disciplines. They provide guidance and support to insure that the engineering program continues to meet industry needs. Engineering alumni continue to be active in support of the program. Our alumni are spread over a wide geographical region. More than 20% of our students continue on to attend graduate programs at well-respected schools. Our accreditation process insures that we continue to poll our graduates to insure that our program meets the needs that they encounter. |
