Engineering General Education Requirements

 

 

A student seeking any bachelor's degree at the University of Tennessee at Martin must satisfy the university-wide general education requirements which are specified in the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog. The general education requirements listed below, consisting of 51 units or credit hours, satisfy both the university-wide general education requirements and the additional general educational requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.

 

Mathematics and Science (24 Hours)

Mathematics (12 credit hours)
Complete all the following: Math 251, 252: Calculus I and II, Math 320: Multivariate Calculus

Chemistry (4 credit hours)
Chem 121: General Chemistry (Lecture and Laboratory)

Physics (8 credit hours)
Physics 220, 221: University Physics (Lecture and Laboratory)

 

Communications, Humanities & Fine Arts, Behavioral & Social Sciences (27 Hours)

Fine Arts (3 credit hours)
Select one of the following courses: Art 110, Art 210, Art 211, Dance 110, Music 111, Music 112, Theatre 110, or Theatre 111

Communication (9 credit hours)
Complete all the following: English 111: English Composition, English 112: English Composition, Communications 230: Public Speaking

Humanities (9 credit hours)
Select one two-course sequence and one additional course from all the courses listed in this group, for a total of three courses.

The two course sequences are: English 250 & 251, English 260 & 261, English 270 & 271,History 121 & 122, History 201 & 202, or Philosophy 110 & 120.

The remaining courses in this group are: French 250, German 250, Honors 111, philosophy 130, philosophy 160, or Spanish 250.

Social and Behavioral Sciences (6 credit hours)
Complete Economics 201,

And select one of the following courses: Agriculture 295, Economics 100, Economics 202, Engineering 100, Geography 151, Geography 152, Geography 202, Health 111, Honors 112, Interdisciplinary Studies 201, Natural Resources Management 101, Political Science 210, Psychology 110, Psychology 120, Social Work 220, Sociology 201, or Sociology 202.
