Heidi A. Huse Assistant Professor of English; B.A. (Spanish) University of Utah, MA (English as a Second Language) University of Idaho, PhD (English: Rhetoric, Women’s Studies, Technical Communication) Miami University (Ohio) Dr. Huse’s teaching fields are non-fiction writing, modern rhetoric, and women’s rhetoric, with particular interest in how we use language in civic engagement and public sustainability/peace/non-violence advocacy. Her dissertation examined the way women publicly identified themselves, particularly as mothers, in the 2000 Mother’s Day gun control rally, the Million Mom March, and the counter-rally, the Second Amendment Sisters’ Armed Informed Mothers March. A book on the gun rally rhetoric is forthcoming. Dr. Huse has been actively involved with the English & Modern Foreign Language Department’s annual Young Writer’s Conference since its inception and continues to serve as a faculty advisor for the campus chapter of the International English Honor society, Sigma Tau Delta. Dr. Huse is also on the advisory committee of UT Martin’s Institute for Civic Engagement. Dr. Huse can be reached at hhuse@utm.edu
