"Staff Exempt"
One who is not primarily engaged in academic instruction, research, or service, who holds a position of administrative or managerial responsibility requiring recognized professional achievement acquired either by formal training or equivalent experience, and who meets the appropriate salary test which is $23,660 for administrative, professional, and executive.
"Faculty"
One who is specifically engaged in academic instruction, research, or public service; who holds academic rank with one of the following titles: professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, or lecturer. Faculty are granted tenure, according to guidelines outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
"Other Academic"
One whose primary appointment is to engage in or support academic instruction, research, or service but does not hold faculty rank.
"Staff Non-exempt"
One who is neither primarily engaged in academic instruction, research, or service nor charged with administrative or managerial responsibility. (All staff non-exempt employees serve a probationary period of 90 calendar days in an active pay status beginning with their first day of regular employment with UTM.)
